Battle for Brandt

Hello, my name is Brandt Pflueger, a 4 year old boy.  I have a cancer called neuroblastoma affecting my adrenal gland.  I get chemo 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, every other week for 8 sessions.  My dad is Brad, a North Lebanon Township Police Officer, and my mom, Melissa, has had to take a lot of time off to take me to chemo.  I have a little sister Savannah.  On Tuesday August 12th, there will be a fundraiser sponsored by the Speedwell Fire Company in front of the Lebanon Valley Mall from 10am to 7pm.  There will be Kauffman's Chicken BBQ, a bake sale, boot drive, and a hair shave-off.  My favorite things will be there that day...fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances.

Below you will find the updated crew assignments.  You will notice that the crews have not changed much.  Those who have had a permanent crew are still the Driver and Crew Chief of that crew.  If you have any problems with your crew, please feel free to contact me.

As always, please keep in mind that the on duty crew has priority on all calls and/or transports that may come in on their duty night  The only exception to leaving without the on duty crew is a cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or an active choking patient.  If you are the driver or crew chief on a crew, it is your responsibility to find coverage should you be unable to respond.  Remember, the community is counting on you to be there for them.

Chief's Notes:

Same story as to the role and responsibilities of the Crew Chief. While we do not have a written definition or job description of a Crew Chief, we do have some guideline for a Crew Chief. A Crew Chief is:

• Responsible for all activities and well being of their crew when on an emergency call.
• Responsible for operations and equipment on the rig during their shift.
• Responsible for supplies and restocking of supplies used during their shift.
• Responsible for completing all necessary paperwork involved during their shift.
• Responsible for reporting all remarkable incidents to the Chief or Deputy Chief.

As I stated, these are “guidelines”. Does this mean the Crew Chief actually does all this work? Absolutely not. . It means they are responsible for making sure all tasks get completed, on time. The person who provides patient care is responsible for completing the trip sheet. The Crew Chief will review the trips sheet for accuracy and completeness but will not “do” the trip sheet. Remember, the call does not end when we pull the rig into the station. We need to re-stock, clean as necessary and, of course, do the paperwork. Please assist with this part of the call as you would patient care. It’s all “part and parcel” of being an EMT. Not too much fun, but it goes with the territory.

There is plenty of new EMS gear in the office. Please make sure you are "geared up"!
